The Art of Letting Go

The Art of Letting Go

With Peter Russell  •  Recorded July-August 2021

A 4-part Webinar Series

In this 4-part Live series, Peter Russell will explain how treating letting go as “letting in” and “letting be” leads to a much easier approach than the conventional trying to let go we usually default to. He will show how to apply this approach to letting go of judgments and grievances, fears and attachments, unhealthy emotions and fixed beliefs, our ego and our suffering, thence opening to the peace, joy, and love that are our true nature.

The call to let go lies at the heart of the world’s spiritual traditions. Non-attachment to outcomes, surrendering desires, accepting the present, opening to a higher power, relinquishing the ego, forgiveness—they all entail letting go. But letting go is not always easy. That's because we often think of it as getting rid of some disturbing thought or feeling. Peter Russell reframes letting go, not as another task we need to perform, but as letting in and letting be.

Peter will explore why we hold on, how this holding on veils out true nature and lies behind much of our suffering. He will show how letting go is key to meditation—allowing the thinking mind to quieten so that we can experience the intrinsic peace of our natural mind, unperturbed by worry and concern. Here, we can be more in touch with our hearts and our innate wisdom, and taste the awakening that all the great mystics and spiritual teachers have spoken of.

In this series we will:

  • Reframe letting go as Letting In and Letting Be
  • Explore this approach in various areas of life
  • Discover what lies behind our holding on
  • Deepen the practice of meditation
  • Explore letting go of ego
  • Gain deeper awareness of our authentic self
  • Explore enlightenment from a non-dual perspective

Module 1: Letting Go as Letting In and Letting Be

Jul 18, 2021 10:00am - 11:00am PDT

Letting go often seems difficult. That’s because we treat it as another task “to do”, but it is better seen as an undoing of the holding on. Rather than thinking of letting go as getting rid of some disturbing thought or feeling, it can be more effective to allow in the experience and let it be. In this session, Peter Russell applies this principle to our emotions and the stories we tell ourselves.

Module 2: Meditation and the Art of Letting Go

Jul 25, 2021 10:00am - 11:00am PDT

Why do we hold on in the first place? We cling to our ideas and beliefs as to what will make us happy, but more often than not this leads, at best, to some temporary satisfaction, and more often to self-created discontent and suffering. In meditation we can step back from these thought patterns and experience the intrinsic peace of the natural mind, unperturbed by worry and concern.

Module 3: Letting Go of Ego

Jul 31, 2021 8:00pm - 9:00pm PDT

Ego is not so much a separate self, some entity within us, as a way of thinking, a mindset about how to get the things and experiences that will make us happy. This has its value, but it’s way of thinking about the world can be activated much more often than needed. We can let go of ego by stepping out of this mindset. When we do, we discover the true nature of the self—the “I” at the heart of our being.

Module 4: Letting Go in Life

Aug 8, 2021 10:00am - 11:00am PDT

When the ego-mind is no longer dominating our thinking, we are free to see our circumstances from a more open perspective. This freedom is the foundation for true forgiveness, and caring. We are more in touch with our innate wisdom and with our hearts. Love can flow more freely, and infuse our relationships. Whatever the future might hold in store, the art of letting go is going to be more important than ever.
