I’d like to speak at the SAND Italy event; what do I need to do?

How do I get to Titignano?

Please visit our venue page for more information.

Can I camp at Titignano?

Yes, there are various camping options at the Castle including: bringing your own tent/camper van or renting one from SAND (simple tent or canvas teepee). You can also rent bedding. Bathroom and portable shower facilities are provided for campers. Three meals a day are included with your camping ticket. Please visit the registration page for more information.

If you plan on camping, please be advised that you must bring everything you need with you for your well-being, including bedding (unless you rent it), a pillow, a flashlight and warm layers for the cooler nights, etc.

How does on-site registration work?

Registration for the event will begin at 3pm on Tuesday, July 2nd. If you arrive earlier at Titignano you are welcome to enjoy the beautiful location but will not be allowed to access your room until 2pm (see below). Registration will take place in the main lobby of the Castle. When you arrive, please park your vehicle in the main parking lot and walk to the main lobby of the Castle to register. Absolutely no driving allowed in the main square of Titignano.

Where do I check-in if I am staying at the Castle of Titignano?

The Castle office is located left of the main lobby. Check-in directly with the Castle staff in order to get your room key. Check-in opens at 2pm. Additionally, you will need to check-in for the event at the SAND table in the main lobby.

What time is check-out?

All rooms must be vacated by 10am on Monday, July 8th. You are welcome to stay on the premises longer that day but please know you will be expected to be out of your rooms by then. There are no exceptions.

Can I accompany a friend/family member if I don’t plan to attend SAND?

A few “vacation only” spots are available for family members and friends of attendees who are not interested in the event itself but wish to overnight at Titignano. This option is available on the registration page.

What about children?

The Italy Gathering is family-friendly. Kids 0-2 participate for free, and we have a discounted price for children 3-12 including food and accommodations. Our volunteer team will also offer daily activities for children. The facility has a lovely swimming pool as well (no supervision provided).

Can I volunteer at SAND Italy?

SAND provides great volunteering opportunities. Join the team! More information will soon be available on this page.

How much time is a volunteer expected to work?

Volunteering at SAND means you will work an average of 45 hours total.

Some work a little more. It breaks down to 2 shifts a day during the main conference (Tuesday through Sunday), or less if you’ve done some pre-event or post-event work.

Is there a discount for Seniors and Students?

Yes, there is a 10% discount for Seniors (ages 65+) and students (current valid student ID must be presented at registration). If you qualify, use this link. This discount is available from April 2nd (it can not be applied on top of the Early Bird discount).

How accessible is the event?

The event site is a medieval Castle with a slightly uphill cobblestone square and stairs to many of the rooms and dining hall. Some rooms have some stairs to get to the bathroom. There are no elevators. Please plan your trip accordingly, and let us know during registration if you have any accessibility issues you would like us to know about when assigning you your room.

What can I expect from the weather?

The weather in Italy in July is usually quite warm/hot, with highs in the high 80’s and lows in the 60’s. Rain is also a slight possibility. Evenings at Titignano can get quite fresh so we encourage you to bring some layers for those cooler nights.

What should I bring?

The weather is hot during the day and cooler at night. Bring summer clothing for daytime and layers for the evening. The main square at Titignano is cobblestones so we encourage comfortable footwear. You might also want to bring comfortable clothing for dancing and yoga.

There are no stores at Titignano or nearby, so please bring with you all supplies you will need for the week-long event. There is no ATM so also bring whatever cash you might need for wine, bar purchases, etc.

Are translation services available?

The talks at SAND Italy are given in English. Additional translation services from English to Italian will be available at registration. These will cover the presentations given in the main gathering hall. The deadline to sign up for translation is May 20th. Subject to number of requests.

Is the water drinkable at Titignano?

Yes, the water at Titignano is drinkable.  The Castle has implemented a purifying process for their water and it is up to local and international drinking standards. We strongly encourage you to refill your water bottles and help reduce plastic waste by not purchasing plastic water bottles. SAND will have some stainless steel drinking bottles for sale.

Is there cellular/internet service available?

There is limited cell phone availability at the event site. Not all spots on the property get coverage. The Castle provides wireless internet access in certain areas but it is not the fastest or most reliable connection.
