Rays of the Absolute (the Legacy of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj)

“Having understood the nature of consciousness you will also understand that you are not the consciousness.”

~ Nisargadatta Maharaj

In 2006 Stephen Wolinsky proposed the idea of traveling to India and filming Nisargadatta Mahara’s translators and disciples and explore what was the legacy Maharaj left behind in his hometown, Mumbai.

In 2007 Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo together with Stephen Wolinsky, Philip Safarik and Fred Good traveled to India to shoot this film.

The meeting with the old devotees was both illuminating as well as deeply touching.

Over the next seven and a half years, we all plugged away, going through mounds of material allowing this project to reach completion.

The film you are about to see cannot demonstrate the amount of work that went into this project….but let’s simply say that finally it is complete…J

Nisargadatta did not leave an ashram; he did not leave any teachings, nor successors. This movie is homage to him; a look at his unintended legacy from people that have been inspired by him more then words can express.

A documentary film on Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj. A great self-realized man with a clear understanding of Non-duality with profound inner peace and silence and its eloquent expressions. His Q & A book, “I AM THAT” is a masterpiece. Every student of “Universal Oneness” should read it. Please watch this rare movie. Thanks.

Nisargadatta’s book, “I Am That” was
my first introduction to Non-duality. Thank you so much for your yeoman’s job
of putting together this film on his legacy. Because he was a
Self-realized person and spoke both to and from Consciousness, I could never
quite understand the totality of how duality/nonduality works. I have
since come across a Western Vedanta teacher, James Swartz. His book:
“The Essence of Enlightenment” has put all of the pieces of the
puzzle together for me. He has helped me understand and discriminate
between Consciousness (Awareness), Individual Jiva (Soul) and Isvara (God) and
how it all unfolds and works. However, I am eternally grateful to the Maharaj
for introducing me to this eternal Wisdom

Science and Nonduality with Nisargadetta has also introduced me to this eternal wisdom of Non-duality as with Deepak Chopra. And I am also grateful to come across James Swartz. I love his teachings of traditional(Sampradaya) Vedanta.

Thank you for this! To say, above, that “Nisargadatta did not leave … any teachings, nor successors”, is not the case. What are the books such as ‘I Am That’, ‘Consciousness and the Absolute’, etc, etc, about, if not his teachings? Further, there are self-realized living Masters around today, direct disciples of Nisargadatta. Some of them are known, and some unknown. These are also a substantial part of his legacy.
As for his ashram, it resides in the heart of many!

Watching “Rays of the Absolute” was a very moving experience for me. It felt like a privileged glimpse “behind the curtain” of a life of great significance to me. Congratulations to you Zaya, Stephen Wolinsky and everyone else involved with the production! Well felt and well done!

I watched the movie today and it was a very nice documentary. And in my self-inquiry I have a question:How can The absolute be beyond Consciousness when Consciousness/Awareness/Self is already ever-present,unborn,actionless,unchangeable and non-dual? 🙂

Thank you for sharing this free documentary. It was apparent how Nisargadatta Maharaj shared his love with so many people for free. He wanted others to experience his wisdom. This was a very heart felt film. I thank you Neti Neti Media for sharing this with all of us. Namaste everyone.
