SAND Italy Conference

The SAND Italy Gathering is in the medieval Castle of Titignano, in beautiful Umbria (central Italy), about 50 minutes outside of the town of Orvieto. For information about the venue of Titignano, and how to get there, please visit our venue page.

Ticket options and registration link can be found on the registration tab.

Please visit our venue page for more information.

Yes, there are various camping options at the Castle including: bringing your own tent/camper van or renting one from SAND (simple tent or canvas teepee). You can also rent bedding. Bathroom and portable shower facilities are provided for campers. Three meals a day are included with your camping ticket. Please visit the registration tab for more information.
If you plan on camping, please be advised that you must bring everything you need with you for your well-being, including bedding (unless you rent it), a pillow, a flashlight and warm layers for the cooler nights, etc.

On-site registration will begin at 3pm on Tuesday, July 14. If you arrive earlier at Titignano, you are welcome to enjoy the beautiful location but will not be allowed to access your room until 2pm.

The Castle office is located left of the main lobby. Check-in directly with the Castle staff in order to get your room key. Check-in opens at 2pm. Additionally, you will need to check-in for the event at the SAND table in the main lobby.

All rooms must be vacated by 10am on Monday, July 20. You are welcome to stay on the premises longer that day but please know you will be expected to be out of your rooms by then.

While this has been an option at previous SAND Italy Gatherings, due to requests for housing from those attending the conference and to limited onsite housing, we no longer are able to make the option available.

The Italy Gathering is family-friendly.
Kids 0-2 participate free of charge
Children 3-12 participate at a discount, including food and accommodations.
Our volunteer team will offer daily activities for children.
The facility has a lovely swimming pool as well (no supervision provided).

SAND provides great volunteering opportunities. Join the team! Please read the Volunteer FAQ for more information. If volunteer positions are available, you will find a link to the application form on the right-hand side of the main event page, under the REGISTER button.

Volunteering at SAND Italy means you will work an average of 45 hours total. Some work a little more. It breaks down to 2 shifts a day during the main conference (Tuesday through Sunday), or less if you’ve done some pre-event or post-event work.

Yes, there is a 10% discount for Seniors (ages 65+) and students with a valid (current) student ID. This 10% applies only to the registration portion of your ticket (not to accommodation or meals). You will need to show ID at the door. If you qualify, please enter the code STUDENT/SENIOR at registration when prompted. This discount is available only to adult participants purchasing tickets for the full event.

The event site is a medieval Castle with a slightly uphill cobblestone square and stairs to many of the rooms and dining hall. Some rooms have some stairs to get to the bathroom. There are no elevators. Please plan your trip accordingly, and let us know during registration if you have any accessibility issues you would like us to know about when assigning your room to you.

The weather in Italy in July is usually quite warm/hot, with highs in the high 80’s and lows in the 60’s. Rain is also a slight possibility. Evenings at Titignano can get quite fresh so we encourage you to bring some layers for those cooler nights.

The weather is hot during the day and cooler at night. Bring summer clothing for daytime and layers for the evening. The main square at Titignano is cobblestones so we encourage comfortable footwear. You might also want to bring comfortable clothing for dancing and yoga.

There are no stores at Titignano or nearby, so please bring with you all supplies you will need for the week-long event. There is no ATM so also bring whatever cash you might need for wine, bar purchases, etc.

Yes, the water at Titignano is drinkable although a taste of chlorine is possible. The Castle has implemented a purifying process for their water and it is up to local and international drinking standards.

There is limited cell phone availability at the event site. Not all spots on the property get coverage. The Castle provides wireless internet access in certain areas but it is not the fastest or most reliable connection.

No cancellation fee prior to March 1. There is a $100 administration fee for cancellations March 1 to May 25. There is a $200 administration fee for cancellations May 26 to June 15. No refunds after June 15. Tickets are transferable. Email us to cancel or transfer.
