Peter Russell – The Art of Letting Go: The Path of No Effort location: San Jose Room If we let go a little, we have a little peace. If we let go a lot, we have a lot of peace, If we let go completely, we have complete peace. — Ajahn Chah The Dalai Lama once said that “In the final analysis, the hope of every person is peace of mind.” Why then, despite being such an intelligent and creative species, are we seldom at peace? As numerous teachers have pointed out, we are looking in the wrong direction. We are caught in the ego-mind’s thought system, which tells us that peace comes from what we have or do. Seeking for happiness in the world around focuses our attention on wants and needs, hopes and fears, choices and plans. This focus veils the peace found in the natural, unperturbed state of mind. To open to our true nature we do not need to do or attain anything. We have simply to let go of the seeking that keeps the mind busy and tense. The beauty of this approach is that nothing needs to be changed or eliminated. It is simply taking the tension out of attention, and surrendering to the simplicity and ease of our true nature.
Unmani – Recognizing Who We Really Are, and Then Living as that in Our Daily Lives location: Rose Garden Teacher and author Unmani is known for her direct and ruthless honesty, her gentle guiding, and playful sense of humor. In this workshop you will have an opportunity to have a dialogue with Unmani, to enquire into your own deepest longing, and to explore the mental positions of the thinking that tries to find a place of safety, comfort and rest. On the spiritual search, we can either be obsessively trying to fix any human discomfort with the idea that one day ’I’ will no longer experience discomfort, or we can end up landing in an Absolute position which, when hijacked by thought, can become a way of escaping or distancing ‘myself’ from ordinary human discomfort. Both are limited and illusive positions in thought, that are based in the desperate attempt to avoid the reality of life as it is. At some point holding on to these positions becomes so unbearably painful or exhausting, that the only possibility is to stop and see what is true, even if it is frightening or uncomfortable. In meeting with Unmani there is no position to stand in, and nothing to grasp, and for the mind which has been on a long and tiring spiritual search, this can be a big disappointment. There is no final arrival at a special spiritual identity, but instead the seeing that the simple reality of whatever is already, can no longer be overlooked. In this workshop, Unmani undermines the clever ways that the thinking tries to rebuild it’s identity over and over again. All that is left is simply the free-fall as Life itself moment to moment. Feeling and experiencing what is actually here, rather than what we think should or shouldn’t be here. There is no escape from the reality of this human experience however it is. Recognizing this, is the endless coming alive as who we really are in, and as, this human life. www.die-to-love.com
JAC O’KEEFFE – What You Are Looking For is Where You Are Looking From location: Guadalupe Room  A practical exploration offering inner deepening and understanding. This is an experiential workshop where we are led by Jac to go deeply within. This is a unique chance to explore the various perspectives that are available within you. Is your view arising from a body-mind that offers only a local and personal perspective or is there a global, unified view available to you? Let’s explore both and gain understanding of these territories and then go further. Jac will guide you to drop beneath both the personal and the unified phenomenal positions. Here is an invitation to be aware of awareness, conscious of consciousness and let’s go deeper still. What are you when there is no reference point? Dropping all identity, dropping the awareness of awareness let’s dive prior to the non dual viewpoint. Can seeing and functioning happen when attention has returned home? Let’s explore how life can be lived without the pretense of mistaken identity.

Menas Kafatos and Jay Kumar – Seeking the Sacred in Science: Quantum Theory, Cosmology & Consciousness location: San Jose Room Why are we here? What is the meaning of existence? How do humans fit into the universe? What is consciousness? These existential questions on the nature of our human experience have been explored from competing perspectives by the two dynamic forces of religion and science. This unique and inspiring workshop investigates how scientific inquiry and spiritual faith might express complementarity and achieve unity. This integral approach to examining the nature of consciousness will be examined through the lens of both science and religion.
BENTINHO MASSARO – Each Part contains All of Existence – Living in Fullness location: Live Oak Room Every single experience available in existence has one common point of contact: You. Consciousness. The Here and Now. Everything meets in the here and now of your very own consciousness. This means that you can actually learn to experience directly what it feels like to be in a state of overflowing fullness, where lack and need are no longer relevant or true, because you feel that you contain the existence of All That Is, was or will be. You can experience a changeless state of joy and abundance, where you are rooted in the confidence that everything is possible, backed up by the direct seeing that every part contains the whole: That every sub-atomic particle contains the entirety of any universe that ever existed, exists or will exist. Each portion of existence is felt and seen to be saturated with literally infinite possibilities. All is already entangled as One. This understanding and way of being transcends the sense of space, time, motion, distance and separation, and it feels like living in a fullness that’s hard to describe, an inseparability of All That Is which has to be tasted to be understood.
ELLEN EMMET – The Awakening Body: Exploring the Body in the Light of Non-duality location: Guadalupe Room Universal awareness is the essential substance of our being and the reality of all experience. When we knowingly abide here as this pure open Awareness, we recognize that all experiences: thoughts, bodily sensations and sense perceptions arise effortlessly from within it to express it as peace, love and beauty. In our meeting we will give special attention to the experience we call the body. For most of us, the deep rooted and conditioned habits in the body that create and perpetuate the illusion that our identity is limited, solid and separate, remain unseen and active beneath the surface of our contemplation. This is true even when our understanding is clear and strong at the level of the mind. Thus the real ‘I’, Awareness, is felt to be separate and limited. Meanwhile, the body’s harmonious and organic functioning remains compromised by an unnatural, complicated and, ultimately, impossible mission to maintain the tangible sense of an illusory separate identity.
SCOTT KILOBY – Changing the Addiction/Recovery Paradigm: Notes from the Kiloby Center location: San Martin Room In this workshop, Scott Kiloby, founder of the Kiloby Center for Recovery in Palm Springs, CA will be introducing, explaining and instructing participants on the effective new approach being used at the Center with clients suffering from addiction, anxiety, depression and even endless spiritual seeking. Scott’s book “Natural Rest for Addiction”, forms the basis for the approach at the Center. Primarily a nondual approach, Scott’s work incorporates his Living Inquiries, which also contain a psychological element that releases the sense of lack and core-woundedness that often fuels addiction. The Living Inquiries include the Compulsion Inquiry, which dissolves addictive thoughts and sensations in the moment they arise and the Anxiety Inquiry, which relaxes the fear and anxiety around withdrawal and living without addictive substances and activities. The primary component of Scott’s work is the undoing of what Scott calls “The Velcro Effect” which is the experience of thoughts (i.e., words and mental pictures) feeling stuck or velcroed to bodily energy (i.e., sensations and emotions). The Velcro Effect is responsible for suffering, according to Scott. Living a life free of suffering is simply a matter of undoing this Effect through gentle, direct looking with simple, experiential, non-intellectual questions. Those who use the inquiries realize that they cannot find the desire for the substance, cannot find any threat in living without it and cannot find a self that is lacking. In addition to the Inquiries, Scott has been working daily at the Center, constantly developing new and innovate ways to release addictive tendencies as well as depression, anxiety and seeking in general. This workshop will include both information about the Center and Scott’s approach as well as much experiential work. Visit www.kilobycenter.com and www.naturalrestforaddiction.com.
LOTHAR SCHÄFER – Quantum Reality and the Spiritual Mind location: Morgan Hill Room The Spiritual Mind is a mind that can search for truths in the non-empirical background of the universe. The phenomena of quantum physics show that such a background exists, which doesn’t consist of material things, but of non-material forms or patterns of information. These forms are real, even though they are invisible, because they have the potential to act on us. They form a realm of potentiality in the background of the visible reality and all empirical things and concepts are emanations out of this realm. There are indications that the forms in the realm of potentiality are contiguous and mind-like, like the thoughts in our mind. Thus, the background of the universe now appears as an indivisible wholeness, and consciousness is a cosmic property that is mystically connected with our mind.
RUPERT SPIRA and A. H. ALMAAS, facilitated by ZAYA BENAZZO – Exploring the Nature and Dynamic of Experience location: Monterey Room The only knowledge we have of a world is our experience. What is the nature of experience, and how does it happen? What are the means through which the nature of experience and how it happens may be discovered? In this conversation with Rupert Spira and A. H. Almaas we will explore the nature and dynamic of experience, and their two distinct approaches to that inquiry.
RUPERT SPIRA – The Direct Path Location: San Martin Room I am aware of thoughts, I am aware of images, I am aware of feelings, I am aware of sensations, I am aware of sights, I am aware of sounds, I am aware of tastes, I am aware of textures, I am aware of smells, I am aware…I am aware…I am aware… What is it that remains present throughout our lives? Only that is worthy of the name ‘I’. See that the experience of ‘being aware’ never leaves us; it cannot be parted, separated or removed from us. That alone is ‘I’. Being aware, or aware Being. What would happen if we ceased being fascinated by what we are aware of and became interested instead in the experience of ‘being aware’ itself? Be aware of being aware. That is the essence of self-enquiry; that is self-remembering; that is sinking the mind into the heart; that is the practice of the presence of God. Allow the experience of ‘being aware’, the knowing of our own Being – its knowing of itself in us – to come out of the background of experience and into the foreground. Allow it to infiltrate, pervade and saturate all thoughts, feelings, sensations and perceptions with its luminosity and emptiness. See that all experience shines with the infinite light of your own Being alone.
JOHN HAGELIN – Consciousness: Down the Rabbit Hole: Entanglement, Worm Holes, and the Brain Location: Monterey Room Supernormal abilities: Celestial vision, divine healing, levitation, bilocation… Are they real? If We present cutting-edge evidence that the core phenomenon of consciousness originates DEEP within the physical realm—in quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, and ultimately superstring theory (unified field theory). Some scientists (e.g, Penrose) have proposed that consciousness originates from Planck-scale mechanisms rooted in quantum gravity. We confirm that hypothesis using today’s highly successful quantum gravity theories: String theory and M-theory. We further illuminate how these core, Planck-scale mechanics of consciousness relate to brain-scale cognitive functioning. That is, we explain the bridge between these Planck-scale dynamics and the human EEG: How does Consciousness enter the brain? We present a novel mechanism for this bridge—a mechanism that simultaneously sheds light on numerous, long-standing mind-body enigmas. Finally, we distinguish content-free consciousness (Samadhi) from awareness of content. We identify in the EEG this content-free consciousness (“the observer”) with global-alpha1-coherence; the content of consciousness (“the observed”) with high frequency gamma synchrony; and the observer-observed relationship with the stable, phase-locked harmonic resonance between the alpha1 (the observer) and the gamma (the observed). This allows us to distinguish ordinary waking consciousness from Samadhi, and Samadhi from Enlightenment—thereby unlocking the key to experiencing both Samadhi and Enlightenment.
MENAS KAFATOS – Nature and Experience of Consciousness in Shaivism and Relationship to Modern Science Location: San Jose Room The great non-dualistic systems in Eastern thought originating in India, non-dualistic Vedanta and Shaivism, give us a higher view of the individual, the universe and the nature of consciousness. The underlying premise, is that the human being is a reflection of fundamental Consciousness and that in fact there is no difference between the individual and the universal. Shaivism, particularly the version that flourished in Kashmir between the 8th – 12th centuries CE, was developed in the tradition of Vedanta but also went beyond reaching new levels of height in both practice and thought. It is a Trika (triadic) system, of Shiva (absolute, undifferentiated Consciousness), Shakti (universal creative aspect), and the individual soul. Shaivism teaches that there is no difference between Shiva and Shakti, and in fact no difference between them and the individual. What appear as differences in the objectified world, are projected differences in the universal screen of Consciousness. In this workshop we will study selected sūtras from some of the great Shaivite texts, contemplate their content and draw analogies with modern science. The parallels with modern quantum theory and the role of the observer are very interesting, understanding trika principles applying to both. In particular, qualia, the collection of vast numbers of subjective experiences, play a fundamental role in both monistic and scientific systems in the unfoldment of Consciousness. The universe is conscious.
PETER RENGEL – Heart Meditation – Awakening your Spiritual Love location: Guadalupe Room This time for us to be together is not a lecture, nor a workshop, nor any traditional form of meditation. Meditation can be tricky. Rather than exploring the realms of consciousness that lie beneath our thoughts, what we often experience is no more than sitting in silence and thinking. And thinking. And thinking. We can stay within the limited realms of the linear mind forever. Or we can awaken our Divinity by touching into the “Infinite Inner Self” that lies beneath our thoughts. This mini-retreat offers a “Touching Souls” Puja Circle to create a profound safety and connection among us. There are also tender, paired exercises to further exchange your Heart energy with others, as we all become vehicles for one another to come home to Love. Then, as you participate in Peter’s unique “Heart Meditation,” you will have opportunities to open to your own spiritual vulnerability. This allows you to fall back into your “Infinite Inner Self” from which our Divinity arises. As this process unfolds, you discover new depths of your Beauty, Strength, Tenderness, Joy, Innocence, Love, and Spirituality. A delicate kind of Grace showers you with blessings that satisfy you all the way down to your Soul. Imagine feeling loved, lovable and loving in a short, three-hour time span. Deepen your inner peace, whether you have ever meditated or not. You can learn ways to more effectively dance beneath your thoughts and be nurtured by the vast richness of the Universal Love within your own Heart.
RICHARD LANG – Seeing Who You Really Are location: Morgan Hill Room This workshop is a refreshingly modern way of discovering who you really are – the boundless, timeless awareness that is everyone’s True Self. In this workshop Richard will guide you through awareness exercises that invite you to notice the difference between what you are for others, your appearance, and what you are for yourself, your reality. You are not required to believe or imagine anything. As amazing as it sounds, all you are asked to do is look. What a treasure you find when you look: All things are within you. Come to this workshop and discover this beautiful, deep truth about yourself. And then go on re-discovering who you really are in your daily life, whenever you choose. Richard Lang first saw who he really was in a workshop in 1970 with the English philosopher Douglas Harding, author of ‘On Having No Head’. Since then he has devoted his life to Seeing, and to sharing this simple, accessible Way. He has published two books, several videos and a CD, and travels widely giving workshops. KAREN JOHNSON – Entanglement, Love and Union location: San Jose Room   Recent scientific discoveries have shown that two particles that have been in contact with one another under certain circumstances will behave as though they are in continual communication regardless of where they are in spatial relationship to one another. In other words distance is not a factor in the transfer and mutual influence of information. This discovery has important implications for human relationships. Although more a metaphor than a proven correlation, it is interesting to note how the principle has parallels in terms of the deep spiritual conditions beyond the time space continuum that can impact experiences within the relational field. We will be investigating how entanglement can be seen as an expression of a kind of union between beings that is more intimate than simply being connected or not separate. How will two people experience this principle within their relationship? What are the implications of this kind of union? What kinds of potential does entanglement speak to that are inherent in our relationships? What does it mean about love, intimacy, delight and pleasure? I posit that it calls into question how we hold these human experiences. We can find that there is more to relationships than we have usually imagined. That our usual limited ways of experiencing, no matter how pleasurable or fulfilling; there is more mystery to them in ways that we might not have considered before. The presentation will be a contemplation of how nonlocal entanglement can manifest itself in relationships. In the workshop we will explore through exercises and various practices how the relational field can become a crucible for realizing the spiritual truth of entanglement.
MINGTONG GU – Energy and Wisdom location: Guadalupe Room Your True Nature is consciousness as our field of energy and awareness. Through Wisdom Healing Qigong, Master Mingtong Gu will guide you to deepen your experience as a human energy field of consciousness directly connected to the wholeness of the energetic universe. Through this experience, you can realize unity consciousness. By awakening the true essence of energy wisdom in your cellular, ancient memory, the pathways to the wholeness within and the universe will open and Master Gu will guide you to bridge the relative and absolute dimensions of yourself. Out of this realization, your joy, creativity, and love can naturally flow with deeper knowing and your well-being will be blessed with the inner and outer presence of energy and wisdom. Together, we celebrate the movement towards the embodiment of heaven and earth as One.
MERIEL GOLD – The Ground of Being location: San Juan Bautista Room “The fact that ‘Being’ is our true and basic nature is not always obvious to us until we have tasted the flavour of it, so to speak. The Ground of Being offers an exploration with hands and simple materials such as brushes, quills, reeds, chinese ink, clay and water, with which we can touch out on paper our feeling responses to the living models, who find their poses through music, thereby moving through a vast range of human experience and pathos, PRIOR to there being any verbal interpretation. This way of approaching drawing mirrors back to us the taste of BEING HERE as ourself playing, as it were, and knowing it. As Paul Cezeane said, “It must give us the fragrance of our Eternity”, in which our activities and circumstances can be seen as the stories of our lives, while the eternity of Being is the mystery in which they/we are played and by which they/we are experienced and known.”
MIRABAI STARR – LOSS AND LONGING: Grief as a Spiritual Path location: Morgan Hill Room In this gathering we will share interspiritual teachings from the mystics of various traditions that illumine the connection between loss and spiritual longing. Many of us who have suffered profound loss experience a palpable sense of the sacred filling the atmosphere and flooding our hearts. Sometimes we are afraid to speak of this numinous gift for fear that we will seem as if we are not “sad.” But our beings are vast enough to hold brokenness and exaltation in the same shattered container. When we investigate this state with curiosity and compassion, we may find that the pain of loss is intimately entwined with our deepest yearning for connection to the Divine. The teachings of the sixteenth century Spanish saints, Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross, show us how we may approach the radical mystery that often accompanies profound loss as a spiritual opportunity rather than as a problem requiring a solution. By engaging a contemplative in favor of a cathartic approach, we cultivate an environment of emotional safety and deep peace. Our time together will include poetry from the mystics of all traditions, deep dialog, writing exercises, interspiritual chanting and contemplative silence.
JOHN J. PRENDERGAST – Sharing Presence: Intimacy and Autonomy location: Monterey Room This workshop will explore the direct experience of shared presence and its impact on intimacy and autonomy. Through a series of dyadic experiments and inquiries, we will learn to withdraw our projections, see through our core limiting beliefs, and open to an essential way of relating from shared presence. Relationships are the most challenging area to stay awake. They can easily trigger our psychological conditioning and cause us to be “entangled” in our old stories and reactive feelings. They also offer us the opportunity to see ourselves more clearly and to meet one another from an essential openness. Presence arises from the conscious recognition of our true nondual nature. As we free ourselves from who we normally think and feel ourselves to be – a lacking, flawed, and separate self – the radiance of being spontaneously shines. This radiant presence is both intimate and autonomous. When we meet another person from presence, we are able to share on an essential level and remain seated in our own authority. We are able to recognize our ultimate non-separation even as we acknowledge our relative differences and boundaries– to commune without merging. We do not need to leave our self in order to meet another. In fact, we cannot meet another on the deepest level unless we abide in our self – a self without center or periphery.
LYN HUNSTAD – Using Entheogens in a Spiritual Practice Location: Guadalupe Room This workshop will explore how entheogens can be an aid on the spiritual path and to help you decide if journey work is right for you. We will also examine how to make the most out of any experience you decide to explore. Additionally, we will look at the variety of spiritual practices and their goals. And examine how entheogens can assist us in reaching spiritual goals. Also covered will be the key requirements for preparing a productive journey experience, both short term and long term, as well as a specific checklist of things to consider. Contra indicators, or when it is not a good idea to journey will also be discussed. Finally we will review the importance of integration, knowing where support is and is not, dealing with integration challenges, and, if time permits, sharing some meditation options that could be useful in a journey experience. Some short videos will be shown and there will be time for questions and answers.
IGOR KUFAYEV – The Triadic Heart of Awareness Location: Monterey Room What if this universe is a conscious manifestation of pure awareness where the substratum of creation is being reflected through every experience and every interaction? What if the notion of illusion, emphasized by certain spiritual perspectives, is not as credible as it may seem even if these notions are being advocated by modern science. Viewing subject/object phenomena as an illusion empty of meaning conceals the possibility for a more profound insight sparked by experience and delivered through the instrumentality of the senses. Every experience on the plane of sensory, mental or subtle perception is a manifestation of unity in diversity. A sublime intimacy of an unbroken stream emanating from the Spiritual Heart as creation in all its multiplicity. Each and every experience is not a random event empty of purpose and fragmented to the whole, but an integral part of supremely orchestrated stream of awareness directed outward as this universe. This sweet and intense outpouring is the Triangle of the Heart – the very Being-Consciousness-Bliss, the substratum and the expressive power of Awareness to will, know and act – which finds its expression on all respective planes of creation down to every experience born to sensory perception. The triangle of the powers of Will, Knowledge and Action as the pulsation of the Heart of Consciousness and the source from which flows all creation. This Triangle is a universal womb, the Yoni, a throbbing matrix of waves underlying all formations. This pulsation, this emission within Consciousness, ebb and flow in waves of diversity yet always remaining as unity of seer, seeing and seen. The workshop is an invitation to tap into this flowing as dynamic wakefulness of one’s own awareness.
SUSAN CAMPBELL – Getting Real: Honest Communication as an Awareness Practice Location: San Jose Room The human personality and the ego-mind are often seen as a barrier to Oneness consciousness—with their fears, protections, projections, and automatic patterns. But well all have these constellations of conditioned habits. In the Getting Real Work, we use our obvious communication habits as a portals to relaxed, loving openness to whatever arises. As we include, welcome, and often laugh at all evidences of the ego-mind, our resistances melt, and we relax onto our true nature. In this mainly experiential workshop, you will learn and practice some communication guidelines that help you notice and free yourself from all the ways you go on automatic as you communicate and listen to others. We will experience a mini-Honesty Salon, an interactive group experience described more fully in the Saturday Morning program schedule. A key idea in an Honesty Salon is: You’re going to get your buttons pushed anyway in social situations, so why not enter intentionally into an inquiry about this, and use it for self-discovery and self-healing? In the right spirit, this can be a lot of fun. We let go of our normal rules of politeness and aim to show up in a way that is open to discovery—like true researchers.
TIM VAN DER VLIET – Open Your Eyes to Spiritual Awakening – The Easy Way! And Learn the Art of Zen Investing and Doing Business Location: Morgan Hill Room In this three hour workshop we investigate how to live an enlightened life (part 1), and how to enlighten your world while making money (part 2). Part 1: Open Your Eyes to Spiritual Awakening – The Easy Way Tim believes that the way we think – our belief system or perception of things – greatly influences what we perceive as negative in life. In other words: if you can flex your belief system, and if you can learn to open your eyes, you are able to break free from limiting thought patterns. Finding your joy and live life to the fullest is much easier than it seems. Tim explains his five simple, but effective steps on how to live an enlightened life. This is a journey from the mind to the heart by taking it one step further: enlightening your surroundings. Part 2: The Art of Zen Investing and Doing Business Is it possible to enlighten your surroundings and make money at the same time? Of course it is! The Art of Zen Investing is about doing business in such a way that we make the world a more beautiful place. The theory is, in short: “to have a higher goal than making money”. If we have a higher goal than making money, we start doing what we truly like and we start taking care of our surroundings. In this workshop the simple and efficient theory of the Art of Zen Investing is explained, accompanied by examples from companies that practice the Art and interactive dialogues to find out what might be your higher goal, both for yourself as for your business. It is possible to make your dreams come true and make money at the same time. Einstein once said: “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” The theory of the Art of Zen Investing may be this rise in consciousness that Einstein referred to.
