Cinema Nondualite is a gathering of people interested in both the medium of film and spiritual wisdom.
The event's concept is based on the film metaphor which has been used by many Indian masters including Nisargadatta Maharaj and Ramana Maharshi. The film metaphor describes how we perceive our existence “as real” while in fact it is only consciousness shining “its” light on us and we, the silver screen of the “I”, are seeing the colors, believing it, and making the experience our own.
Please join us for this event, which will include extraordinary films, outstanding guest speakers, group gatherings and experiential and social events. We have a limited number of festival passes, with substantial early bird discounts (the first 50 passes are only $99/$80 students).
The intent of this gathering is to convey the feeling that our life as we perceive it is like a movie, form permeated by emptiness. When we watch a film we enter a trance state that makes us responsive to the story happening on the screen as if it were real. We cheer for our heroes as if they were our best friends, we are afraid of the dangers they face as if they were real and cry of sadness at their death. While watching a (good) film we lose the feeling of separation from it, we enter a trance like state and we become unaware that what we see is simply a two-dimensional projection of light on a silver screen. Just as we lose awareness of watching a film, in our lives we often lose awareness of awareness itself, streaming through all of our experiences. This event is meant to support and evoke the direct recognition of our true nature through the medium of film.
