CINEMA NONDUALITE FILM SERIES

CALL FOR FILMS

We are looking for exciting, innovative, profound, and humorous films that touch on some aspect of nonduality to be shown during the conference. If you have a film you would like to be considered, send us a DVD screener.

Closing date is July 31, 2009. Entry is free. Download the entry form here.

Movies and Nonduality

To watch a film is to still the conscious mind and enter a trance, and if we could not do that, movies would be completely unintelligible. Fortunately we have little difficulty in accepting a completely artificial representation of reality: still images flash by at 24 frames per second in a two dimensional universe; events seen from multiple angles are accompanied by idiosyncratic music; people pretending to be other people speak words they would never say themselves in entirely artificial situations. This effect is known as the suspension of disbelief, and as moviegoers we take this remarkable mental process for granted. But an extraordinary thing is happening in our brains: in effect we become one with the reality of the movie, and the film’s “consciousness” merges with our own.

Cinema Nondualité is an exploration of this potential for film to elicit a unified altered state, and inquires whether it can direct the viewer towards experiencing a nondual state. The series also includes documentaries on the subject.

The Film Series

Short films under five minutes will be screened at various times during the conference, while feature length films will be shown on Friday and Sunday evening.

We are honored to be hosting the Bay Area premiere of The Quantum Activist, a new documentary featuring conference presenter Amit Goswami (see below)

FEATURES

THE QUANTUM ACTIVIST
Directed by Ri Stewart & Renee Slade
(US 2009) Documentary

The Quantum Activist tells the story of a man who challenges us to rethink our very notions of existence and reality, with a force and scope not felt since Einstein. This film bridges the gap between God and Science. The work of Goswami, with stunning precision and without straying from the rigors of quantum mechanics, reveals the overarching unity inherent in the world’s major religions and mystical traditions.

YESTERDAY WAS A LIE
Directed by James Kerwin
(US 2009) 89 mins Drama

A groundbreaking new noir film, Yesterday Was A Lie is a "fresh and stylish tale of intrigue and metaphysical darkness" (Ain't It Cool News). Hoyle, a girl with a sharp mind and a weakness for bourbon, finds herself on the trail of a reclusive genius. But her work takes a series of unforeseen twists as events around her grow increasingly fragmented... disconnected... surreal. Hoyle discovers that the most powerful force in the universe — the power to bend reality, the power to know the truth — lies within the depths of the human heart.
